The Night of Ideas: Utopias

The Night of Ideas is an event presented by the French cultural services throughout the world, which seeks to create a thought-‑provoking platform in an intimate and convivial setting — a sort of modern‑day salon to make ideas interesting without trivializing them, fun without losing their seriousness, in the best tradition of the Enlightenment.

For the 2017 editionthe specific theme in Los Angeles is: UTOPIA(S).

Los Angeles constitutes a perfect backdrop for a discussion on utopias as the city has long been a unique generator of utopias and dystopias in both high and low culture. The home of the dream industry has been mythologized in many ways, from the gold rush to technological revolutions, and it has been the stomping ground of many utopian experiments, extending its influence globally.

A seven-hour marathon of debates, live performances, readings, art installations, screenings and musicThe Night of Ideas: UTOPIA(S) will bring together leading thinkers and artists.

Lola Gonzalez, FLAX’s artist-in-residence will introduce and screen her video Croire (Believing) followed by a Q&A.
