FLAX Grant

Les Yeux Noirs

FLAX presented “Les Yeux Noirs in Concert” at the Skirball Cultural Center in October 2006 in partnership with the Alliance Française and the French Consulate.

This fundraising event was a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the fostering of French-American relations and exhibit the diverse origins of modern French culture.

This Paris-based octet takes its name from the title of a Russian gypsy tune made famous in the 1930’s by the unforgettable guitarist Django Reinhardt. Headed by the virtuoso violinists and brothers Eric and Olivier Slabiak, they take a fresh and innovative approach to Yiddish and European Gypsy music with a nod to Manouche Jazz.
