  • Sep 27 - Oct 8, 2018

Boris Chouvellon (born 1980) is a French visual artist working with sculpture, photography and video. He lives and works in Paris.

In Los Angeles, he will work on “Cruising on Empty”, a project to be presented at SHOW Gallery in 2019, which examines the city, its periphery, its roads and coastlines. The automobile, one of the heaviest products of advanced modernity and the road, one of the most interventionist infrastructures in nature, will be the central element of his project. He will navigate the hollowed landscapes, and others saturated by signs in spaces constructed for settlement. This residency is also supported by the FACE Foundation.

Boris Chouvellon’s work arises during travel, while steering wheels of cars. He gleans short videos of moving platforms in the landscape and on various architectural form within it, capturing the archetypes of what will be his next proposals in terms of sculptures, installations or photos. This process goes and comes continuously between the outside, the studio and the space of exhibition.

His work is regularly shown in France and internationally. His monumental sculptures have been part of open-air contemporary art exhibitions including Le Voyage à Nantes, Hortillonnages, art, villeset paysages at La Maison de la Culture in Amiens, Quatre in the Hautes-Alpes, SAC Mari tra le mura at the Pino Pascali Foundation in Polignano a Mare, Italy, and Se souvenir de la mer at Château d’Avignon. His work has also been seen in group shows at FRAC Basse-Normandie, Musée des Beaux Arts in Calais, SCVA in Norwich, England, Argo Art Centre in Brussels, Belgium, Centre Culturel Français in Hanoi, Vietnam, agYU Presents Buy- sellf in Toronto, Salon de Montrouge, and Zapping Unit at Mac Val. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) in Marseille presented a solo show of his work in 2011, with a catalogue. Boris Chouvellon was artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris from 2012 to 2014. Also in 2014, he was shortlisted for the Révélations Emerige grant. In 2016 he presented a solo show in the patio of La Maison Rouge in Paris. His work to date will feature in Fondations, a monograph to be published by Editions André Frère in July 2016.
